Abnormal Magnetic Resonance Imaging Findings in Patients With Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss

The etiology of sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) remains unclear in most cases. This study aimed to assess abnormal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings in patients with SSNHL and evaluate the value of MRI in identifying the cause of SSNHL.A retrospective analysis of the charts and MRI findings of 291 patients with SSNHL was performed. In 291 patients, MRI abnormality, which was co...

Inner Ear Anomalies Causing Congenital Sensorineural Hearing Loss: CT and MR Imaging Findings

any portion of the membranous or the bony labyrinth. A primary or secondary deficiency of the cochlear nerve may also present as a congenital anomaly. CT and MRI allow for a detailed analysis of each lesion and they can provide guidance for the proper treatment of each patient. Both CT and MR imaging can be used to detect inner ear malformations, yet the two techniques are often complementary. ...

Sudden Bilateral Sensorineural Hearing Loss Secondary to Cerebral Venous Thrombosis

Introduction: Sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) is an important otological emergency. Up to 90% of the cases are idiopathic. Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) is an extremely rare identifiable cause as it only represents 0.5% of all strokes.   Case Report: In this paper, an unusual case of bilateral SSNHL secondary to bilateral CVT with rapid and complete recovery is reported. The patie...

Ruptured intracranial dermoid cyst.

Intradural dermoids are rare congenital tumors representing approximately 0.05% of all intracranial lesions. These benign tumors have a typical appearance on CT and MR due to their lipid components. The complication caused by rupture are the spillage of the fatty material into the cerebrospinal fluid. We report a case of a ruptured dermoid cyst showing fat/fluid levels in both side ventricles a...

Diagnosis of ruptured intracranial dermoid cyst: value MR over CT.

The CT and MR findings of seven patients with pathologically proved ruptured dermoid cysts were reviewed to analyze the MR characteristics and to see if MR evaluation had significant advantages over CT. In six cases, both CT and MR identified fatty material in the CSF spaces. Hemorrhage complicated preoperative diagnosis in one case. Patterns of extraaxial fat distribution were as follows: intr...
